If anyone knows the secret to series television, it’s Gregory Alan Williams. He is originally known for portraying LAPD Officer Garner Ellerbee in Baywatch (and it’s spin-off, Baywatch Nights), but his resume currently includes roles in 83 movies, 67 television shows and 22 television movies. He is currently a series regular on HBO’s hit show “The Righteous Gemstones (portraying Martin Imari) and has had series regular and recurring roles on 25 other network television shows during his career. To name just a few of his RECENT recurring/series regular roles, he has Robert 'Mac' McCready on Greenleaf, Bert Goodwin on Chicago Med, Dr. Peterson on The Resident, Chief Besser on Containment, Waldo Pilgrim on Power, Aaron Epps on Game of Silence, Kevin Williams on Secrets and Lies, Judge Warren Libby on Drop Dead Diva, and Coach Pat Purnell on Necessary Roughness.
He has also had recurring guest roles on The Sopranos, The West Wing, The District, The Game, and Army Wives and has guest starred in episodes of NYPD Blue, Boston Legal, One Tree Hill, and Meet the Browns and has also lent his voice to the animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
GregAlan has authored four books including A Gathering of Heroes: Reflections on Rage and Responsibility: A Memoir of the Los Angeles Riots. The book chronicles Williams' life and experiences with racism, along with an incident during the 1992 Los Angeles riots in which he rescued and saved the life of a Japanese-American motorist who had been pulled out of his car and was being beaten by a mob. The motorist was semi-conscious and bleeding heavily when Williams rescued him, and a passing black driver picked up the injured man from Williams and drove him to a nearby hospital, where emergency surgery saved his life.
He is a founding member of the renowned African American Theater company Penumbra (St. Paul, MN) where he worked with the company's playwright in residence Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson.
